Dr Yasser Farooque is a highly regarded, triple-certified, multi-fellowship trained Specialist Surgeon with extensive expertise in Upper Gastrointestinal (UGI) and Hepato-Pancreato-Biliary (HPB) surgery. His practice focuses on the surgical management of both oncological (cancer-related) and complex benign conditions affecting the liver, gallbladder, bile ducts, pancreas, stomach, oesophagus, spleen, and small bowel, as well as retroperitoneal…
He is based in Sydney, Australia, and completed his core surgical training in Singapore & Perth, followed by advanced fellowships in Liver Transplant, Complex HPB Surgery, and Complex Upper GI Surgery, undertaken both within Australia and overseas, including centres in Adelaide, Westmead, Newcastle, Oxford, and Singapore.
With advanced training obtained in Australia, the UK, and Singapore, Dr Farooque brings international calibre and best-practice standards to Western and South-Western Sydney, where he leads a busy, high-volume, and safety-focused surgical practice, offering world-class surgical care with local accessibility.

Dr Farooque is Head of Department of Upper GI Surgery at Liverpool Hospital, Sydney, and is cross-credentialed at Bankstown Hospital. He also serves as the Surgical Lead for Quality Assurance through the National Surgical Quality Improvement Program (NSQIP), ensuring that outcomes in complex surgery are continuously measured and improved. He is a second line reviewer for CHASM in NSW. He is regularly involved in Medico-Legal advice for high-stakes cases.
He is the founder and director of LiSTEN — the Liverpool Surgical Training & Education Network — a collaborative program now involving over 40 international partners. Through LiSTEN, he has established strong academic and clinical links across multiple countries, advancing surgical training, research, collaboration and innovation.
